Study Visa for Ireland Query?

Post by mukilansc » Sun Jun 18, 2023 2:02 pm

Hi everyone, I am a student who graduated Bachelor of Dental Surgery in April 2023 and I have secured a study offer in Ireland for this August.

I am applying for a study visa and all my visa document are in order, except my degree certificate which has not yet been issued by my university (it will take quite some time for it to be issued). I have my 10th marksheet, 12th marksheet, Marksheets for my 4 years of college and Bonafide statement from my college that I finished my compulsory internship successfully.

The window for applying for Visa is nearing and I have no other options as of now. I have requested the University to expedite my degree certificate, but no response from them. Are the documents that I mentioned above enough for Visa Application? TIA

Are these just your grade transcripts?

Can university issue you a confirmation that you finished the course, before diploma is done? I would expect some sort of a process for that is in place.

Yes. The University can issue me a Bonafide certificate stating that I have finished the coursework. As for the degree certificate, the process is underway.

So does it state there what grade did you get (and that you did not fail)? Provisional Degree certificate, maybe?

How do you know that you passed your degree? What did you show to Irish university to provide evidence of your degree?

In my marksheets it indicates that I passed all the coursework needed for the degree. Along with the coursework there's a compulsory internship, which along with the coursework encompasses the entire degree. The proof of the internship completion will be indicated in my Provisional/Degree Certificate (which has not been issued yet). However, I can request for a bona fide certificate from my University stating that I finished the internship successfully.

I showed the Irish University my Marksheets and my Dental Board Registration (which says that I am legally allowed to practice dentistry in India) for the application. The University issued me a conditional acceptance, stating that they needed my degree certificate. My provisional nor my actual degree certificate hasn't been issued yet.

So you have a conditional offer, not exactly a guarantee. Technically there's no explicit statement for degree, as your transcripts should be enough to show ISD you're capable of progressing, but ambiguity about your university admission (due to lack of cert) is making it an issue.

I'd advise you to a) work out with university about the expected date when your degree will be issued (if it's going to be October-November, you might be in trouble, as courses usually start in September) and b) ask recent graduates that moved abroad how they handled this issue (and when their certificates were issued) - you can't be the only one struggling.

If there's no time, apply with a cover letter explaining the situation, as well as highlighting the fact your uni was satisfied enough to give you an offer.

To the above: apply enclosing transcripts, of course ^

Thank you for the help. Unfortunately, mine is an early starting course which starts in the mid of August. And I have talked to my University, and hopefully I get my provisional at the least before the degree starts. My only concern is showing the visa officers, that I am academically capable of pursuing the degree in Ireland.

I have paid a part of the tuition, and have secured my accomodation as well. All my financial documents are sound and ready to go. I don't have much time, before my window for applying for Visa closes. So, as you suggested, I'm going to send my transcripts and attach a cover letter explaining the situation to the visa officers, and hope for the best outcome.

Thanks again for the help.
