Naturalisation is not an immigration application. You can apply even after you complete one year on ILR.
You are expected to apply from within the UK (i.e. an open-ended absence from the UK, which you are expected to list in your application could lead to a rejection) and you are expected to attend your citizenship ceremony in the UK.
You are free to travel before and after your application. So it would be better to prepare the form and then submit it once you are back in the UK.
