Was there any official announcement regarding this change?
I was about to submit my application this week with Bank-Printed Statements to cover the 7-day period.
Is it now better to wait until next week to obtained the post-mailed statements and mail in those intead?
Does anyone know the US phone number of where to call with questions like these to the UK Office?

Official Announcement
PBS Tier 1: evidence of maintenance funds – change in requirements (08/12/2008)
With immediate effect PBS Tier 1 applicants may submit evidence of personal savings to meet the maintenance requirement that is dated no more than one calendar month prior to the date application. Applications that have in the past been refused solely on the grounds that the accompanying evidence of maintenance funds was more than seven days old on the date of application will be reviewed. Results of reviews will be notified to relevant applicants in due course.
Although it came into effect on Dec8, 2008, it allows for admin reviews where rejections were made on account of 7 days rule. You are better off waiting for original statements to come through now.

PS: for some strange reasons the
web page on UKBA website still says: For applications submitted outside of the United Kingdom, all evidence must be dated no more than seven days before the application is submitted.
