Naturalisation query.

Post by scrattaroo » Thu Jul 27, 2023 10:27 am

Hello, everybody & good morning.

My wife has her British Citizenship ceremony next month. I have just obtained my ILR.

My queries are as follows :

1) Can I apply for Naturalisation based on GOV.UK’s website which states spouse would be eligible for naturalisation (without having to wait for the mandatory 12 months) if the partner has a British Citizenship?
Yes or no?

2) Do I need to wait for her to obtain her British passport or the post-ceremony letter is good enough?

3) I’m asking here only because two law firms have given me two contradicting replies - one said, I could apply & the other said I need to wait for 12 months before applying for naturalisation. Got me confused.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi alterhase, thank you for the quick response. Much appreciated mate.

Thanks for the confirming that I can apply for naturalisation without having to wait for the mandatory 12 months. Good news for me.

I meant the letter given after the swearing in ceremony as I was not sure if I need to wait for her official passport to be issued by the Home Office. Glad that Naturalisation certificate is enough.

I’m filling the form myself, I have never used a lawyer so far for any of my applications. I only wanted to confirm with the lawyers because I did not want my application to be rejected by the Home Office.

Note that the certificate is the document conferring citizenship. The passport is a travel document though would also be acceptable.

Feel free to post further queries in this thread.
