Just to be sure, how old is the son?

Should be MN1, as long as he satisfies the requirements - see guidance https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... le-version , especially 3(1).

What is the UK immigration status of the other parent of the child? How long has the child been resident in the UK?

The expectation for a child born abroad is that they can be registered as a British citizen when at least one parent has become or is applying to become a British citizen AND the child and other parent both have ILR.

Are you planning to apply for British citizenship with the child?

The other alternative, which requires the child to have lived in the UK for ten continuous years, by definition will not have been met as the child is only 9 years old.
