Short holiday to Ireland from UK (driving)

Post by Petem » Sun Aug 13, 2023 4:16 pm

Hello,

I hold duel UK and Irish passports, wife on UK Family residency card (previously had UK and DE EEA residency cards).

Can we both trave to Ireland via NI and use Irish passport and marriage certificate as in the past freedom of movement?

Has anyone been sucessful in similar way for a short ~one week~?

I'm not extremely familiar with EU Freedom of Movement, but it could possibly be tricky from a legal standpoint.

As you're coming into Ireland and you're an Irish national, local laws apply, not necessarily EU laws. Your wife did hold a Treaty Rights residency card, so in the past you had an exemption, but I'm not sure if it plays a role as at the moment she just has an Article 50 TEU one.

I'll let more knowledgeable members to clarify that, if there's someone with better knowledge.
