First passport application

Post by Alrida » Sun Sep 17, 2023 5:55 pm

Good afternoon everyone

Looking for your opinion on the subject. My friend has just returned from a holiday and asking fi she can apply for a passport. Apparently she heard that onw should be in the country three months prior to applying for their first British passport.
I cannot find anything on this prerequisite, have you seen this in the guidelines or faced such situation?

There's nothing like that. You can apply for a passport even if you're abraod - how else would a British child bor nabroad travel to the UK?
Not a qualified immigration adviser. Use links and references given to gain confirmation and/or extra information.

Is your friend a British citizen? If not s(h)e needs to apply for naturalisation to become British and then apply for a passport.
If not British what immigration status does friend have? It's odd s(h)e mentions a "three months rule" - there is no such rule for passport or naturalisation applications.

Perhaps you could ask your friend to register so can ask questions directly, rather than through a third person.

Thank you for getting back to me so swiftly. My friend has already got through Naturalisation route as a British citizen’s wife. Her last step in this journey is to get a passport. What I’m taking away from two responses is that she can apply for a passport straight away and stop worrying. Many thanks for your help.
