Medical training

Post by v838 » Mon Sep 25, 2023 6:47 pm

Hi,

Id really appreciate any help that anyone can provide. Thanks in advance

Im a doctor and I plan to do my medical specialisation in the UK. Ive just passed my PLAB1 and have booked my PLAB2 for next year.

My spouse is already working in the UK as a doctor on a Tier 2 visa.
Would it be better for me to apply for a dependent visa when coming to the UK? My worry is that it would be difficult to switch to a tier 2 once I am in the UK and would limit what training I can do.

Or should I just go to the UK on a tourist visa, and leave again and reapply for a tier 2?

Thanks again

The visit visa is the cheapest and easiest option. The issue with that is the declaration that you are visiting to see your spouse and that might place a question mark on your intentions.

The most robust option is the tier 2 / skilled worker U.K. dependent visa and then switch to your own skilled worker visa once you pass PLB2. It will not be an issue once you have passed the PLB2 and seek sponsorship.
The demand for doctors in the U.K. is so high you are virtually guaranteed to find a NHS sponsor in the field you wish to work. Where the post is geographically in the U.K. might be the only point that could be problematic.

Good luck
