Are you asking as a sponsor licence holder or as a Skilled Worker in need of or requiring CoS?

Unfortunately there is not a direct methodology for checking if a COS is genuine. Even if the Sponsor supplied a print out as it is relatively easy to forge. If a scam is being operated they usually use a genuine COS reference that has been issued in the past and change the details to the individual that is being scammed.

There are certain alpha / numeric combinations that at least identify the type of COS but there is not a checking service or app.

I agree it looks strange that the so called sponsor is asking these questions.

Indeed. Hence why I had to ask for which side is the enquiry meant for. As a sponsor OP should be sure of the CoS as there is no intermediary between OP and HO as per Issuance of CoS.

The concern here would be if the Sponsor has knowingly provided a CoS that isn't genuine, and is concerned that this can be checked.
