Making sure that my understanding is correct

Post by decentguy_uk » Tue Dec 16, 2008 4:59 pm

Hi All

I am quite sure that my concern will be addressed on this forum

Here is the story

--> I studies in UK from September 2000 til October 2004

--> After studies, I got a work permit for 5 years valid from November 2004 till November 2009

--> Will be applying for ILR in October 2009 (28 days before expiry)

--> I believe that in November 2011 I can apply for British citizenship (aka Naturalization ?)

My queries are:

No. 1 --> Since I have been in UK since 2000 (as student initiallyfor 4 yrs), can I apply for ILR now ? i.e. in 2008 ?

No. 2--> After getting an ILR, can I move to Hong Kong and work for same company but in Hong Kong branch (need to be emplyed by Company Ltd, UK or Company Ltd, Hong Kong ??)

No. 3 --> If my currently employer (who is sponsoring my work permit) makes me redundant in 2008 or early 2009, can I apply for HSMP from UK or do I have to go back to my country for HSMP application ?

Let me know what your thoughts are

1. No - 10 years on student visa

2. difficult - absences are allowed but ur intention for ILR must be to make the UK ur home, which is impossible if ur never here...

3. Dunno, think u can....
