Surname on both Visa and BRP spelling

Post by Scorpion67 » Thu Oct 26, 2023 2:13 pm

Hello everyone,

So the surname on my passport is "AL OTAIBI" but on the BRP and Visa it's "ALOTAIBI" without the space, even though I went back to my application and confirmed that I typed it correctly as shown in my passport. I thought this was not an issue until now, when I tried to do a DBS check required for my course which got refused stating that it's not the same surname.

The UKVI site states that I should report this within 10 days, but now it has been almost 40 days since I received my BRP. I already reported it as a "problem with my new BRP" but I'm not sure if this is right and I'm quite worried that I will be fined or worse, have my stay shortened. It's not my fault, I typed my exact surname correctly in the application.

Someone please help, what can I possibly do?

Thank you so much for your reply.

So just to confirm, I clicked on "report a problem with your new BRP" on gov.uk, then it asked where I applied and my BRP number, etc.. after completion, I received an auto email stating at the end its from the "BRP management unit".

Did I do it correctly? do I need to do anything else? Sorry for not being concise.

You reported a problem with your BRP and received an acknowledgment email from the BRP management team, which is consistent with your report - nothing wrong with that. The same message might say something like:
Somebody from the BRP management unit will contact you within xxx working days about the issue you have reported
Now you just need to wait to hear back.
