Referee - Retired / Living abroad / Co-Worker

Hi all,

For the 2nd referee who needs to be a professional.

• Can the person be a retiree or must they still be currently active in the profession?

• Under Engineer it says "Professional Qualification" does this refer to the engineer being chartered or would them having a masters in in structural or chemical engineering be considered a professional qualification?

• Does the professional need to currently be living in the UK to qualify as a referee? I am applying for citizenship within the UK and not from abroad. As I would like to ask my friend back home in the US who is a social worker to be my 2nd referee if the above 2 options do not workout.

• Can a co-worker be your 1st referee?

- retired should be ok
- needs to be chartered or to belong to a recognised membership association, a degree doesn't count
- as you are applying from the UK I believe you should have someone living in the UK
- yes as far as they are British and over 25

An additional query about the referee. The list says a director of a VAT registered company. Alot of companies have multiple directors does that matter? Is all that matter is the person's job title include the word "director" in it?
As I was considering asking my boss who is director level but he is probably 1 of 800 director levels globally.

I would assume that by "director" it is meant that a person is listed as a company director on the register in Companies House, not just a job title.

Director as a job title is fine. Same way Manager as a job title is fine. The idea behind that might be that one has to be highly responsible to attain such positions.
