Citizenship application clarification

Post by vinny048 » Thu Nov 09, 2023 9:07 pm

Hi, I’d like to ask few questions regarding my upcoming application for my wife.

Background -

Me - UK citizen by birth

Her -
Lived in the UK since Jan 2014
ILR since 2019
Spent 21 days out of the country in past 12 months.

As there as changes to the citizenship process from December I’d like to apply before.

1, What counts as application date, online submission or when biometrics are uploaded at UKVACS?

2, Am I correct in thinking she will be given a reference number upon completing the English requirement test?

3, Apart from passport with stamped pages what other documents are required?

4, I’m applying using AN guidance - is that correct?

Thanks in advance

Sorry which changes?

Online submission and payment.
2, Am I correct in thinking she will be given a reference number upon completing the English requirement test?
Yes, but did she not do the test for ILR, can rely on that.
3, Apart from passport with stamped pages what other documents are required? BRP, Engliztest ref, LITUK reference, 2 referee declarations.

4, I’m applying using AN guidance - is that correct?
Correct-there’s only one application form.
Thanks in advance

Changes - I believed there was a change coming in December which is citizenship can be achieved after 10 years instead of 5 and a higher English requirement (which she would pass)

Turns out the info I was given was for people without ILR.

With ref to question 2 her English test was done as part of ILR so it’s over the 2 year cut off I believe so my understanding is that she would have to redo the test.

Does that sound correct?

Thanks
Vinny

Not correct:
If you provided English B1 for ILR you can rely on that fact (tick the appropriate box). The two years refer to cases where a test was taken but not used for immigration applications. And LITUK is valid for life.

As for the 10 years vs. 5 years:
What matters for citizenship is that applicant holds ILR, irrespective of which route or visas it was gained.

Thank you.

One final question, so there are no changes to citizenship at the moment and none pending over next few months?

I’d like to wait until January / February if there are no changes.

I don't think there are any major updates in the pipeline relating nationality law.
