Seeking Advice: Child Visa Validity with Differing Parents' Visa Expiry

Post by rylandgrace » Tue Nov 28, 2023 12:06 pm

My wife and I hold Skilled Worker visas in the UK, with mine expiring in August 2024 and hers in September 2026. Our new baby was recently born, and we are planning to apply for their child visa. However, we are concerned that the baby's visa will only be valid until August 2024, aligning with my visa expiry. This would mean paying for a visa that is valid for only around eight months. Ideally we want to apply as my wife's dependant and get around ~3 years visa.

Is there an exemption or special consideration for child visas in situations where parents have differing visa expiry dates? We would like to avoid paying a significant amount for a visa that is valid for such a short period.

Interestingly, when we applied for our elder daughter's dependant visa, she was granted the same validity as mine, even though my wife's visa expiry was earlier (She extended on this September and my daughter's visa is valid until August 2024).

Thanks for any help.
