Failure to meet immigration health requirements

Post by dibble » Fri Dec 19, 2008 3:30 am

I would just like to warn everybody who may be thinking of emigratiing to Oz. I have just gone through the 2 years timeline to get all of my qualification notarised, checked, paid for the medicals, etc etc. Only to find out that becasue my daughter is deaf they will not allow us in. Even after offering to put monies in a govt bond, waive all rights to her ability to claim on thier health service, have 3 job offers etc etc.

So now finding out how bigoted, short sighted and narrow minded this country is i feel it my obligation to warn any other person. That unless all thier family is 1000% healthy forget it.

Just glad i found out now.

That's horrendous discrimination surely? Is there no way of taking it higher and appealing at all?

If we got all the people off their bloody asses in this country who "Can't work" or have babies just for the money (I have the privilege of knowing 2 indirectly) then we could afford to pay any expenses of families like yours. *sigh*. I love this country but I hate a lot of the people in it.....

He is. lol i just had a rant for having a rant. ^_^

My point was that we probably do the same to those comming to the UK, as Australia is doing to the OP. It's wrong and should be appealed against if possible.

But that doesn't make any sense. Two wrongs don't make a right.
Oh, the drama...!

I think the best advice to the OP is to assess all the requirements for immigration into a particular country before making plans or putting applications. Or seek migration advice from a migration agent, who will be able to assess his situation and determine on the spot if he is eligible.
Medical requirements to Australia are spelt out quite clearly so he should have made himself aware well in advance, which would have saved him plenty of time. The nature of those requirements is a different matter.

I am going to write to the UK Australian ambassador. If only to vent my anger.

For info i was fully aware of the requirements, my daughter went deaf during the application. My point is that deafness is not a drawback here, will not cause unecessary burden on thier system as i indicated i would pay privately for any assistance she required. In addition to having an international statute lawyer draw up papers to withdraw any possible chance of drawing on thier health service. Also to pay $50,000 into a OZ govt bond.

Bottom line is they are narrow minded, bogoted and short sighted country. I would have loved to have lived there, and would have been a valuable contributor to thier economy. Now i will be the most advent critic of them, and spread the word about thier bigoted society and its views wherever and whenever i can.

I am very sorry for your daughter and then you for its consequence of the ailment. I agree that it is wrong for the Au govt to take this stance especially since their concern has been addressed by your solutions. Unfortunately as you can see how govt are run, people get benefits they shouldn't get, other people get denied benefits they are entitled to. Despite your willingness to not make your daughter a burden on their system, they know bureaucracy's ineptness to track it to make it a sure thing and this is why I think they don't want to do it because it is something they have to be bothered with.
I apologize if this sounds terrible but can you not leave your daughter where she is in the care of someone and have her visit and you visit her while you work in AU. Perhaps you can convince them more once you are there?
