Application takes longer than 6 months! Don’t know why?

Post by Iousomemoney » Thu Nov 30, 2023 10:03 pm

Hi I have no idea why application takes so long. The only reason I can think of is, I misunderstood my Self-Assessment tax and i missed one payment and got a small penalty. I have made arrangement with the HMRC to repay the outstanding amount and the penalty.

I have also changed address shortly before I submit my application.

Below is my post regarding timeline of application.

Eligible criteria: 10 year stay on various visas ( tier2,4,5)+ 1 year ILR
Non Eu
English language: degree taught in English in the UK
Online application
Date of payment of application: 30/5/23
Date of biometric appointment: 22/6/23
Never received receipt email from HO
It has been 6 months since I submitted my application and still heard nothing. I have emailed further nationality but received standard email to say it will take longer than 6 months. Also received an email from Thank you for your correspondence requesting progress on your application for naturalisation as a British citizen. I apologise for the delay in replying.

I can confirm that the application is in process and that decisions on applications are usually made within six months.

Received email from workflow 3 weeks ago:

I am sorry the application is taking longer than usual to be processed. As you may be aware, naturalisation is not an automatic process, and we have to make a number of enquiries to ensure that applicants can satisfy the statutory requirements. We do not, ourselves, carry out these checks and we cannot, therefore, be sure how long they will take in each case and cannot offer a date of completion.

The Home Office will endeavour to process applications as quickly as possible but in the current circumstances, applications will take longer than normal to process, including applications for British Citizenship.

Please be assured that as soon as we are in a position to reach a decision or require further information you will be notified accordingly.

I honestly don’t know what’s going on. I never broke immigration laws, nor have I have any criminal record. I really don’t know why would it take so long

Does it mean that my application is likely to get rejected? I reckon I can contact my local MP?

It's a standard email sent to many applicants - on the face of it it means they are late with processing.
Not an indication they have issues with your application. We have yet to see what, if any, are the issues with an application.
You are free to contact your MP but most of the time they get the same reply as you. MP's can't force the Home Office to speed up.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
