UK Born child to parents granted Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)

Hello Dear,

I need your guidance to understand the proper process to apply passport for my daughter.

Here is the details:
1. Both parents have been granted with ILR before the child was born
2. We also have birth certificate for the child registered in one of the UK borough
3. Now while applying for her passport, it is asking "Do you have a naturalisation or registration certificate?"

What should we choose for this 3rd point ?

• We are under the assumption that a child born in the UK to a parent who was granted ILR before the child was born is automatically British from birth

• If the above statement is correct then can I choose "Yes" for 3rd Point and from where I can get the registration number for my child to fill in this form ?

It's really interesting when I choose "No" for 3rd point:

• It is asking for maternal & paternal Grandparents’ documents which we don't have as they were born in 1952 and got married in 1972. We don't have birth or marriage certificates for them

Do you have any suggestion or guidance to have first passport for my daughter's

Why would you say yes if it's not the case? Just say "No".

About grandparents, the form is meant to cater for a variety of applicants, so it's pretty generic. Not sure what you can do, most likely fill in what you do have (other members will advise further).

What you need to provide is your BRP and child’s birth certificate. Don’t fill items which don’t apply. Attach a covering note as well.

Your child doesn’t have a registration certificate therefore no number. You can’t provide what you don’t have and can’t get. Registration is not for children who are automatically British due to your ILR status.

This a fairly frequent application- HMPO will understand what is applied for.

It's again concerning if HMPO knows about this case. they should have made this simple. Do you see any issue if we won't provide grand parents documented as we don't have those ?

It would only apply if grandparents are British.
Are they?
If not ignore. HMPO guidance doesn’t deals with all possible permutations.
This is a commonly application.

In this scenario parents or grandparents nationality is irrelevant.

The form asks details that compete to different entitlements to a passport. As you are not claiming entitlement through the grandparents, you won't need them. Write N/A and explain in a covering note that you can include with your application.

Just a thought: your child is applying for a British passport to which child is entitled to as a British citizen. Child is British based on you ILR status dating back to before birth. It cost less than a hundred pounds. It’s not there might be a loss of citizenship.
