Graduate Visa (Post study work - PSW visa and dissertation resubmission

Post by Sana1111 » Thu Nov 30, 2023 7:06 am

Hi, I recently received my master's final result and I have to resubmit for my dissertation.

My visa expires on Feb 4th 2024 and my university has given the dissertation resubmission date of Feb 3rd 2024 which is just a day prior to my visa expiration date and my result will be released post that. My university is not giving any extension nor they are helping in providing any CAS for visa extension. A

Does anyone know if I it is possible to apply for me to apply for PSW visa after submitting my dissertation and then book my biometrics, once I get my result

Kindly help me out with any information you guys have. Thank you so much.

Based on your circumstances it looks like you will not qualify for the graduate visa at the time your student visa expires. So you need to consider your options if you wish to remain in the U.K.

Ask your university if they will sponsor you with a new CAS dated until the new submission date. You can then apply for an extension, which will be granted +4 months.

The university has given him to the expiry of his visa all bar one day to submit. They are unlikely to issue a CAS to extend to after that date.

OP already confirmed that the university is not issuing any CAS for an extension.

One thing that can work is speaking with the programme coordinator and try to negotiate a new resubmission date earlier than 3 Feb 2024, let's say early January. There is a higher chance to get the results before the visa expiry date, explaining that these are required to apply for a Graduate visa before the leave expires.

This obviously will depend on a number of factors: the university policies, how flexible is the programme coordinator, etc., even how the student's performance was along the programme could affect this. But I know that this is something completely feasible in some HEI.

That's clear from their original post. The problem is that some universities think they are not "allowed" to issue such a CAS, when of course they can if they wish, as long as the new completion date is still in the future. Many universities routinely issue a CAS for this, specifically so students can gain the wrap-up up time and protect eligibility for the Graduate visa. That's why I would encourage OP to pursue it and ask again, specifically mentioning the wrap-up period.
