Citizenship Application - Steps to Expedite

Post by Kashka » Mon Jan 08, 2024 3:49 pm

I applied for citizenship back in early August 2023. Coming up on 5 months+ now and seeing applications from late September and early October getting responses already. I know every application is on a different timeline but seeking information on how to go about ensuring I do all I can on my end.

I emailed FurtherNationalityEnquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk couple of times back in December and in January, and have not received responses. It has been more than 20 working days since my first email. I wonder if I should engage my MP already or wait for the 6 months mark.

My application is very standard and straightforward. 10 years long residence route, and 1 year ILR. Never had immigration issues or character issues. ILR via standard application took only 2 working days. The long time to get a response is making me feel uneasy, which is a shared feeling with everyone applying for citizenship I guess.

Let me know your thoughts about contacting MP or holding off to the 6 months mark. I would also like to know if there is anything more I could do. Any feedback is appreciated.

Probably waiting for the six months to end is best because otherwise it provides another reason for telling you to wait. MP is an option for later - best to check his/her website if they give guidance on how to approach this. MPs can't force the Home Office to expedite the process, even if they are past their own target. And even MPs sometimes get the same emails in response to their inquiries as the applicant. Until then wait - your approval may just come through in the meantime. But let us know what happens. Frustrating for sure.

Best to hold off until the six months mark - nothing can be done until then anyway. There are options for when the six months mark comes around, eg a SAR, contacting your MP, raise a complaint.
