extension of visa

Post by tomomomomow » Fri Jan 26, 2024 11:48 pm

Hi all,

Im from Japan and currently staying in Ireland with stamp2. I have an Irish partner and we’ve just made an appointment for marriage notification in mid March. However, my visa will expire next month February.
In this case, is there any chance they could extend the permission to stay? Or do I have to leave the country and come back to attend the appointment?

Of course I’ll contact department of justice but it could take a while to get a response..

Hi,
You have 2 options. You can apply for Stamp 4 via De Facto partner of an Irish citizen if you have dated your partner for a long time and live together. While the application is pending they will issue you a temporary stamp 4. Then after marriage you send them a copy of the marriage cert to change to spouse of Irish citizen. This will speed up the process for your Stamp 4.

Or

You can enroll in an english language course listed on the ILEP.

You don't have to leave the country. If you do, your residence will be cancelled and you will have to begin from scratch.

After studies you are also allowed to stay for sometime to look for employment in your field If you are employed or have sufficient funds.
