Debt abroad and naturalisation

Post by A100 » Sun Jan 14, 2024 7:06 am

I applied for naturalisation a month ago but just found out that I had an old debt abroad (ccj equivalent). I paid it straight away now. Obviously I didn't declared it in my application. Do I have to notify HO now or will my application be rejected because of it? TIA

No- you’ve cleared it and it wouldn’t show up on UK credit reports.it’s not like a crime.

It didn't show up on UK records, but if they do the check abroad it might come up under civil case or whatever CCJ there calls.... that's why I am not sure if I have to declare it.
I also wonder if anyone who didn't declared CCJ got naturalisation approved recently....

I doubt UKVI interrogate foreign credit reference files ... of course you can disclose it if you wish, for peace of mind.

UK CCJs are a fairly regular topic here, not an issue as long as debtor complies with payment arrangements made. If you are a serial defaulter or bankrupt that's another story. In my years on the board I don't recall someone being refused because of a CCJ.
I know everyone is nervous about loosing the fees over small mistakes or oversights, but applications are refused in the main over statutory requirements not met.

Hi,
My colleuqe also has a similar situation who has ccj in EU, but not in UK credit report, she would like to apply BC now.
Could you please tell whether you got BC granted? If not I can ask hir to hold till she clears all issues abroad as EU citizen. please share your experience.
Regards

OP not here since January, probably still awaiting approval or received decision and didn't update thread of outcome yet.
May be helpful if you ask in your own thread
