The child can be registered as British using form MN1.ramantungala wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 5:53 pmI received approval for my Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) through Set(O) two days ago. My wife needs to extend her visa as a Skilled Worker dependent to complete her five years of residency. However, our child was born in the UK last year. Is my child eligible to register their birth in the UK and apply for a British passport? If so, any links would be helpful.Additionally, I would like to know what documents I need to upload for this process.Thank you!
Registration for British citizenship is not always a discretionary process. A child born in the UK after a parent settles, has an entitlement to register (like in the case above) I am just nitpicking herealterhase58 wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 8:26 pmNote that registering birth in the UK and registering child as British citizen are two different processes.
Registering child's birth in the UK is the only way to obtain a birth certificate - it's not proof of nationality.
Registering a child as British is a discretionary application to the Home Office - a registration certificate will be issued.
You can register the child now. The MN1 application will tell you what you need to submit !ramantungala wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 9:29 amThank you for all your kind responses. One last question: do I need to wait until my wife's visa extension is approved, or can I start the process in parallel? Additionally, what documents do I need to upload for the MN1 form?
