Applying with prior magistrates fine

Hello all,

I have a question regarding applying to naturalisation with a citizenship. I understand the old rules were to make it such that I'd have to wait 3 years. The charge was December 2022 but the offence took place July 2022.

The legislation I broke was a TfL law which is "Contrary to Regulation 7(1)(b) of the Public Service Vehicles (conduct of Drivers, Inspectors, Conductors &Passengers) Regulations 1990 SI No. 1020 and contrary to Section 25(3) of the Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981." I used a discounted oyster not for me and they had me pay for the fares I dodged but officially, the charge is a single charge which was the day they caught me.

Would this be declared at all? It has not shown up on my DBS even when I conducted a basic check the month after so unsure if this counts as "criminal". I plan to declare anyway but wondering if I will be rejected on this ground even if I show I have not broken any other law, paid all my fares properly since then.

Also, in the cover letter, how should I phrase the wording as it includes a fine, compensation order and the admin costs. Do I include the whole thing as the "fine" amount as it be over £1000.

Were you issued a Fixed Penalty Notice? This doesn't look like a criminal offence, just that you tried to dodge a fee for transport - not all fines are the same, and you paid straight away, you weren't issued a court order or similar.

Hi to clarify, I was summoned to a magistrate's court to pay the fines and compensation. They wanted me to pay this as I was found to have used it on more than one occassion but there is only one charge as I have not offended once I realised my mistake.

You should disclose what happened in the application. You paid, so it should be fine. No need to wait for 3 years (not sure where that comes from) what matters is you don't have lots of fines in the last 12 months or lots of small offences in general which would show disregard for the rules.
