Confused about abode/residence requirements?

Post by Trin1121 » Wed Jun 12, 2024 3:28 pm

My husband (US citizen) and I (UK citizen) are going to be looking to return to the UK sometime within the next couple of years. We would be applying for a "Appendix FM Partner" visa, obviously.

I am really confused about the abode requirement. Everyone I see on here posts about what information they are having to supply about where they are going to be living, in what sort of house they are going to be living, evidence that they aren't going to be living in an overcrowding situation, letters from family members with promises of 'rent-free living for as long as necessary' etc. etc.

Nowhere in the application guidelines do I see anywhere where they REQUIRE (or even ask) what your living situation is going to be when you come to the UK. I have only seen transient references to the fact that you must 'intend to live together permanently' once coming to the UK. Am I missing this requirement somewhere? Or - it is perhaps contained within the application process and because we haven't got that far yet, we don't know about it?

Thanks in advance for any guidance!!

You can have a run at a dummy online form. Within the form, you'd be asked where you'd be living. How many rooms you have apart from the Spam and maybe toilets.
If your landlord has no objection to your spouse living there.
How many dependants you have and whats not.

Then you'll have a better insight into the requirements.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

Oh - thanks! I didn't know that you can do a mock application. Do you just online to where you would go to start your official application? I would do that in a heartbeat - as long as it won't get me in trouble or accidentally create an official application too early for us before we are ready!

Whatever application you do, it's not valid until you pay. I'm sure you don't plan to do just that (pay!). Also, it gets wiped after 3 months if you don't sign back into it.

You really can't go wrong.
