Does a person with Settled Status and a biometric residence card (BRC) need to apply for the new eVisa?

Post by cd20 » Sun Jun 30, 2024 12:42 pm

Hello kind and helpful people. Thank you for taking the time out to help. Just a quick question: my family member has Settled Status (EU route) and a BRC (Biometric Residence Card).

On the UKVI https://view-immigration-status.service.gov.uk/status website, for her status it says:
"Status Settled status, also known as indefinite leave to remain"

And her BRC card says "Residence Card" and "Permanent Residence".

Does she need to now apply for the new eVisa or anything else before December 2024?
I did some research and it seems that she doesn't need to do anything per https://www.gov.uk/guidance/online-immi ... r%20email.
"If you have a biometric residence card (BRC) and you have been granted status under the EU Settlement Scheme, then you already have an eVisa and you do not need to take any action to obtain one. You can find details of how to access and use your eVisa (your digital status) in your grant letter or email. You should continue to carry your BRC with you when you travel internationally."

So it seems she doesn't need to do anything and doesn't need to apply for the new eVisa.
But I would like to confirm with more knowledgeable people than me so I don't mislead her unknowingly.

Thanks again, nice community!

EU Settled Status was the first online only immigration status (introduced in 2018) so as the government advice states you don't need to apply. The exact way how it will work when travelling will be advised later in the year.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

Thank you for the reassurance. I too thought that since she already has a UKVI account, she already has all her status info online (i.e. evisa).
Yay!

Should we renew them or wait

Best to apply for a renewal in doubt.
