I am an EU national with settled status and plan to submit my application for British citizenship via naturalisation (5 year residence route) soon - I would prefer not to wait any longer.
While I satisfy all other requirements, including less than 450 days of absence in the last 5 years, I have been absent for 101 days in the last 12 months. I usually do quite a bit of travel for work, but what caused the number of absences to exceed 90 days is certain medical issues which have been treated in my home country due to shorter waiting times.
I am wondering what is the best way to present my case in the application. While I would prefer not to disclose sensitive information, like describing the specific issue or uploading documents proving that I indeed received treatment for it in another country, I am willing to consider it if it would give me better chances.
Currently this is what I have (questions from the application form, numbers added just for this post)
Residence requirements
(1) Do you meet these residence requirements? Answer: No
(2) Please tell us which of the requirements you do not meet and the reason you do not meet them I have been absent for 101 days in the last 12 months. I then mention the medical issues and shorter waiting times for treatment in a different country.
(3) Are there any reasons why you cannot meet the requirements to become a British citizen (for example, you have had too many absences from the UK)? Yes
(4) Please provide further details I have been absent for 101 days in the last 12 months.
(5) If you do not meet the statutory requirements to become a British citizen, are there any special circumstances why you think the Home Secretary should still grant your application? Yes
(5) Please confirm which requirement(s) you think you fail to meet and what special circumstances should be considered I repeat what I wrote at (2) and add that I satisfy all other requirements.
Is the above fine, or how would you improve it? Would you recommend to upload documents showing that I received medical treatment abroad?
Thanks in advance for the help.
