Standard visitor visa for sister

Post by goelc » Sun Jul 14, 2024 7:44 pm

Hello Moderators,

I recently have applied for my parents' visitor visa which has been granted. I had mentioned their travel dates as first two weeks of August. I would like my sister to join them as well during their visit. However, I am not sure what is the best way to proceed, so would really appreciate your suggestions. My sister is single, lives with our parents in our home. She is employed and financially independent. She is in a committed relationship supporting social ties with home country.

First option is to say that my sister will be travelling with our parents. Reason for not applying with them: finalizing her own travel arrangements separately, work commitments.

Second option is to say that my sister will be travelling after the visit of my parents. However, in that case I can mention her travel dates say after a week of my parents' travel dates.

I am concerned about the proximity of her application and visa grant of my parents. Would the proximity be counted between the two visa application dates or between my sister's visa application date and visa grant of my parents?

I would very much like them to come together. We didn't apply for visa as whole family on account of previous rejections from Belgium embassy.

I understand the pros and cons of both the options. I am trying to evaluate the best option to proceed. Could you please let me know your thoughts?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Applications are said to be treated on their own merits, not applying together does not pose a problem.
Being employed, financial independence and subsisting relationship(though not married) and other evidence of strong ties to home country.

Thank you AmazonianX for your response :)

So I gather travelling together with my parents (i.e. the first option) should not raise any concerns, correct?

Also, on the note of my sister's personal relationship, would it be useful to provide some proof as in pictures? what would be admissible for the application?

Thank you.

As it is not marriage can not tell you categorically the admissibility, however provide all and everything to support strong ties to home country, socio-economic etc letter from her employer indicating she is to be granted leave and when she is expected to resume after her visit to UK, financial etc.

Thank you.

You should've continued on your previous thread Topic. That would allow others for follow your journey and learn from it.

As previously advised, you are done with your parents, you don't need to mention them in your sisters application.
She's independent of them. If visa is approved, they can all travel together if they wish. There's no crime in that.

Thank you AmazonianX and Ticktack.

I am aware that it is not a crime to travel together if they wish to. My query was essentially around the question in the application form 'are you travelling with someone who is not your partner/dependent etc?'. And the reason of the query is that there could be a suspicion/question in mind of the case worker about the proximity of the travel plans of my parents and my sister and the timing of their applications. So, I am only trying to evaluate the best option for visa application while minimizing raising any red flags and thus rejection.

If asked about previous rejections, then do tell.

Yes definitely, I will. I'd mentioned about the rejection for my folks as well and addressed it in the cover letter. Thank you for your thought.

That question would be more intrinsic if the visa applications were made together. Not now.

Example, if you answer the question that you have other friends and family in the UK, you'd have to put their names and contact details in the form. Even if you're not visiting them. That could also go against you if you have too many in the UK.

So better to keep it simple. Your sister would be applying for her own visa. If given, she can decide to travel before them, with them or after them. If asked at the port of entry, then she can say she decided to travel with them to help with navigating airport encumbrances.
