IRP RENEWAL

Post by Shyr » Wed Jul 17, 2024 9:43 pm

Hi guys! I’m really worried now beacuse I renewed my IRP card on 26/06 but up until now I haven’t receive yet the approval email. I’ll be travelling next week but I don’t have my renewed IRP card yet. My IRP card will expires 3 days before my flight. I was wondering if is there will be no problem using my IRP card in the airport?

What will I supposed to do?

I wouldn't risk going anywhere until you have your renewed IRP with you. You can try reaching out to the department explaining the situation but don't risk it unless its an absolute emergency. Not sure where you travel destination is but usually IRP is checked by the airport/ airline authorities when you are flying back to Ireland. If you can make arrangements with INIS to send this to the country you are travelling then it should be fine however, this change of address can sometime results in a bigger issue.

My suggestion: Reach out to INIS for an update and decide your next plan of action based on it. Don't risk it all!! You know how this department operates

Thank you for ur reply. But how about going outside Ireland is there no problem using my nearly expired IRP card in the airport? Like my flight will be 3 days before the expiration date. I know it will expires when I’m already at the country I’m travelling. I planned just to dhl the card when it arrives I have a family member here I can just ask them to send it for me when it arrives.

Yes, you wouldn't be asked to produce valid IRP card to your country of destination unless you have had som experience of them asking you to show your IRP card. I think it really depends on the country you are travelling to. :(

One of my friend was in a similar situation and he travelled and was able to get his IRP card DHL'd which was no issue and he was never asked to produce IRP card upon arrival.

I’m only using my IRP card going to my home country instead of visa. That’s why I’m asking if it won’t be a problem going outside Ireland with nearly expired IRP card :( I know for sure in my country’s airport they will look on my card but good thing is i will be arriving there 2 days before the expiration date. I hope it won’t be a problem :(

That’s good to hear. That was my 2nd option also if it won’t be arriving before my flight. I will just ask my family member here to dhl it for me.

I don't think there will be any problem however, i would suggest something here. Could you drop INIS an email and try to get a response back so that in case if they do ask you that your card is due to expire you can show them the email that the card is in process and will be sent to you. You need some sort of proof even as an email to explain the immigration officer your situation in case if this becomes an issue.

I actually did many times. I even send them my flight ticket and an explanations. I only got one reply from them saying “thank you for your email, we can you expedite applications for emergency situations.” That’s exactly what they responded me.

Ok, do you know any friends that have been in this situation and they weren't asked about their permission expiring at the airport and if they did, how did you friend assure them?

Like I said, one of my mates from Pakistan was in a similar situation and he was able to travel and was never asked to produce their IRP. IRP atleast in Pakistan is asked when you are travelling back!!

You can fly out of the state without any problem but you will probably be denied boarding at the airport when coming back as the ground staff will check if you have a valid IRP before letting you board.

Do you have contingency plan if the card is not delivered to your Irish home before your return date?
