Additional documents requested for citizenship application

Post by joanfar » Fri Jul 19, 2024 4:51 pm

Will somebody kindly advise please. I submitted my application last 2nd of March this year and received an email from INIS today asking for Tenancy/mortgage agreements from 2019-2024 (B proof) and bank statements showing minimum of 3-point of sale transactions per month for each month in the year(type A proof). I didn’t choose these documents as I can’t provide all of them. However, with my application I submitted as Type A my employment detail summary for 2019-2023 (5years) and Type B as my Electric bills. Am I missing something? Why am I being asked for exactly different proofs when the ones I submitted are in the list of acceptable proofs of residence?
Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks !

By the way, we submitted the same exact types of proofs for my husband’s citizenship application February this year and the only additional information they asked of him was his date of arrival in the country. All the titles of the documents that we provided are similar to each other's application.

It would be most unusual for them to ask for 12
months per year of bank statements. Even historically the most they asked for was 6 months per year and they reduced this to 3 months per year a few years ago, because there was a legal opinion that 6 months was overly intrusive. Are you sure they are asking for 12 months of statements?

If you applied in 2024 it is not unusual to ask for (3 months of) recent bank statements if your EDS only covers up to 2023.

Were the proofs you provided in your name or your partners? If they weren’t in your name, them
Being accepted for your partners application is not a sign they’d be accepted for you.

If the electric bills are in your name is there a reason you can’t provide rent/mortgage statements? And did you provide electric bills to cover 2024? This might be a reason they’ve asked for more. Finally did you provide at least 3 months electric bills per year? Providing just one month’s worth is often not accepted.

Unfortunately if they aren’t satisfied with the offered proofs they can ask for alternatives for the full period. If you can’t provide any your only option is to reply saying this and see what they do.

Thank you for your immediate reply. Yes , here’s the exact wording pertaining to the bank statements. “Please provide statements from a financial institution (including banks, building societies) showing minimum of 3-point of sale transactions per month for each month in the year (and do they mean for all the years or just “the year” which means this year 2024?

The electric bills have always been in both mine and my husband’s name as we applied for my residency before Brexit(so EU treaty rights) and I made sure that the main utility bills are both in our names so no hassle with my permanent residency application previously. And I did provide the first 2 months 2024 electric bills, and covered 6 months each year for the previous years. The tenancy agreement itself had not been re-printed and re-signed but our landlord had just reported the tenancy to RTB (I think he had to pay every four years of tenancy registration).

Ok I’d assume they just want bank statements in 2024 up to month of application. (But that’s a guess of course.)

The electric bills as you’ve presented them would normally have been fine. It’s unclear why they’ve asked for more- and it’s possibly a request made in error. You can contact the RTB and ask them to email you all your RTB letters. The RTB letters should definitely suffice for years beyond the first year you signed the tenancy. You could also ask your landlord to write a letter on letterhead giving your dates of renting.

Thanks Vadrar! Yes, thinking about it now, they probably are just asking for the months of 2024 bank statements for additional type A proof. Will do as you suggest for the rent/RTB letters. Thanks !
