Replacing BRP with eVisa while Naturalisation application is pending

Post by standrews » Mon Jul 22, 2024 12:45 pm

Hi All,

Towards the end of April, I submitted Naturalisation application and awiting decision. While Home Office sent emails to replace BRP with eVisa. I'm not sure if I should replace, as BRP was submitted as part of requirement and evidence.

Also I'm thinking that maybe my application is on hold until I don't replace the BRP with eVisa?

Can people suggest me if they have replaced the BRP with eVisa while their Naturalisation application was pending?

Thanks.

Go ahead and apply for your eVisa. It should have effect on your citizenship application either way.

Does eVisa has the same BRP number for identification? as that's being written over the application. I don't want this to appear invalid after replacement which may or maynot casue further delays?

Even if the reference number changed it would not matter. People have replaced their BRPs while citizenship applications were happening and it isn't something that has been reported to cause an issue. They can cross check their records if need be.

Have you received an email from UKVI inviting you to register for an eVisa?

If that's the case you should follow their instructions on the email, otherwise you don't need to do anything.

This BRP/eVisa transition process has no influence on a naturalisation application.

Yeah they did invite me twice.

Have you also replaced the BRP? Does eVisa has the same BRP number for identification?

A different number on the BRP and the eVisa is not an issue at all, no need to worry about this.

I don't know yet how the eVisa system looks like, I have not received this invite yet. But every BRP card has a unique number and it seems the same applies for an eVisa.

This doesn't have any impact on the naturalisation.

Yeah absolutely, a number of time inexperienced Home Office staff done the mistakes and since BRP number is mentioned as part of application, I feel inappropriate to switch BRP but want to hear from members if they have done that while application is pending.

I understand that’s not an issue.

People need to switch BRPs sometimes while a naturalisation application is pending. Case workers may make all sorts of mistakes, but ultimately if you have invited to switch to an eVisa you definitely should as physical BRPs are being phased out. In case this has an impact on your application (unlikely) you will still have all documentary evidence of the change.
