is transit visa required for Polish passport holder to US?

Post by deviant1966 » Sun Jun 05, 2005 5:47 pm

Hope some one can help with this one. My partner lives in the UK and holds a POLISH (not EU) passport. We are planning to go to Mexico for a 2 week holiday in August. As far as I am aware she will not need anything for Mexico itself but there is a flight change in the US (transit). Will she require anything in the form of a visa for this? With thanks in advance.

I don't know the answer to your question but don't understand ..... "POLISH (not EU) passport" .... given that Poland joined the EU on 1st May 2004. Can you explain?

Poland did join the EU but it is not one of the visa waiver countries, If my partner was to visit the US for a holiday she would require a visa but as she will be in transit to Mexico would she still need to apply for a visa.

Visa will be required and obtaining such could be a real pain. Transit without visa was suspended pending a review of the system as US immigration laws continue to evolve post 9/11. Only those nationals holding an applicable visa, are visa exempt (Canadians) or are in the visa waiver programme can transit. Can you fly to Mexico directly?

It would be very expensive to fly direct, would the visa that she requires be the same as the onf for a holiday in the states, if so we might as well do two weeks there!

A B2 (pleasure) visa would be appropriate to both visit and transit the US. You may get a B1(business)/B2 combo from their London consulate. You need to schedule an interview appointment on 09055-444546 noting that this is their busiest period given you intend to travel in a short while. The interview will involve a review of your application and a collection of fingerprints (its electronic so no messy ink).

Take the application for such seriously and have extensive proof showing that she has compelling ties to a country outside the US that will motivate her to return there. Your relationship in support of said application is inconsequential if you are not a legal spouse (I note you said partner so not sure whether such holds in your case).
