spouse visa extension questions

Post by nidob » Sun Aug 18, 2024 10:02 pm

Hi,

This is my first question, although I've used this forum in the past for my visa and citizenshp applications. Now I'm applying for extension of my wife's visa in UK.

I'm a British citizen. My wife came here on partner visa in Feb 2022. We are currently prepaing to apply for her visa extension. We started the online application process today but were confused by some of the questions.

This is my 2nd marraige. My first marriage ended in divorce. I've a duaghter from ymfirst marraige. My daughter lives with my ex- She has the sole custody of her. They both are british citizens.

Now, as part of the applicaiton, there was a question whether I had any childern in UK:
"Does Mr ____ have any other children in the UK that are not applying on this application?"

I answered yes, and provided details in the next questions (like her details, and details of other parent/ex-partner)

At the last step, in the list of required documents, we were asked to provide these two documents among other:

- Evidence of Ms <current wife/applicant>'s parental relationship with <daughter name>, such as a birth or adoption certificate, proof of financial contributions to the child’s well-being or general evidence demonstrating concern and interest in the child
- Evidence of Ms <current wife/applicant>'s access to <daughter name>, such as a written agreement between both parents or a child arrangement order

Now my confusion is: why are they aking for documents in my current wife's name when I mentioned that she is not the mother and has no contact etc with her. I cant proceed to next step if I dont select these two documents. Any idea what should I do?

Select it so you can progress.
Explain the situation in a cover letter or note.
CWs are aware how fraught relationships/contacts can be after divorce but are required to ask for those documentary evidence should yours be one that ended on a smooth note.

It looks like the online form was not adequately programmed for your circumstances.

Whipe Most if not all the forms are generic, hence we end up improvising how to tailor it to our particular circumstances.
