OCI: travel while processing is on?

Post by hashbrown » Sun Aug 18, 2024 6:43 pm

Is it possible to leave the UK for good just after applying for OCI?

My plan:-
(I'm waiting for naturization approval)
get British passport.
Surrender Indian passport.
Apply for OCI.
Apply for India eVisa.
Leave UK for good.

I know OCI takes about 2 months for processing, I donot want to live here while that is on.
So, can I just leave the UK for good when the OCI is processing.

I can give a friend's address for it. When it gets delivered, he can courier it to me in India.

Is this feasible? What can go wrong here?

Its not feasible. You entry will be made on e-visa which is tourist visa. The stay will be restricted to 180 days. If you want to leave UK for good, get your OCI first and then you can leave but not on e-visa

Thanks Sathya. Understood.

How is the OCI card delivered? Courier? Does it need to be signed for? Can it be delivered to an address in India?

Now I'm thinking: I could apply for OCI. Then travel to India on an eVisa. Wait for the OCI to be delivered in UK in 2 months. Fly back, collect it from friend, use it to return to India. This should be possible?

The advantage I see in this route is it is cheaper than staying in UK for 2 months+ I just need to buy one and half flight tickets [1 return and 1 one-way].
