Dutch National Wanting UK Passport How much will this cost?

Post by gwoody25 » Tue Jan 06, 2009 2:55 pm

I am a dutch national that is married to a UK Citizen and have lived in the UK for 9+ years.
Due to the non standard nature of the Dutch passport I have found it frustrating and difficult to complete simple things such as book a flight and so am now looking to obtain a UK passport.
Can someone please advise what proce I can expect to pay for a UK passport.
My 12 year old daughter also has a Dutch passport... would this price also be true for her?

Thanks.

Non Standard nature to do simple things?
I have never heard of any Eu passport being so handicapped
Can you elaborate on what hindrances you face with a Dutch passport?

I know nothing about Dutch passports, but I do know that whenever I produce my British one, people spend hours trying to find my details, because, contrary to other passports, the personal information page is at the back, not the front.

How will the Dutch see this? Will you not need to renounce your citizenship?
Aiming at travelling to the UK with my wife and not with an EEA FP!

The diference with a dutch passport it that in holland you have a calling and a legal name. for example calling name = john legal name = simon.

When applying for a NI number my name is john but my passport reads simon. Imagine the fun i had with the council on that one.... I applied 3 times before they got it.

Can you no longer have duel nationality then? If that is the case then I will stay a Dutch National.

The Netherlands does not allow dual nationality; UK does.

You meet the conditions for keeping your Dutch citizenship and getting a UK passport. See the bit about marriage to an non Dutch national.
From 1 April 2003, loss of Dutch citizenship upon naturalisation in another country is still automatic unless one of the following exemptions applies:

the person is born in the country of the other nationality and has a principal residence there at the time of acquisition of that nationality.

if before turning 18, the person has had a principal residence in the country of the other nationality for an uninterrupted period of five years;

if you are married to a person who possesses the nationality you wish to acquire (a spouse who is deceased does not count).
Sorry about the multi edits - can't type for toffee tonight :D

Long pockets - short arms. It is my ethnic heritage. No one else is up, why heat the whole house :!:

I think trying to type with nine jumpers and two coats on that is hindering me

So I can keep my dutch nationality whilst also aquiring a UK passport.
So again my question is how much is the UK Government going to charge me for the priviledge of having a UK passport considering I'm already an EU member.....

Another question not realy related to this.... I have an indefinate leave to remain stamp currently..... if it is indefinate leave to remain... why does it expire? The embasy has told me that the next stamp I require will cost me £400. I can;t remember the code they used for it but this sounds a bit wrong to me....

Thanks.

what are EEA free-movement rights and how do i exercise them?
My Indefinate Leave to remain stamp has an expirt date written onto it and that date passes in a few months....... reding the site linked above it says that if i exercise EEA free movement then I don't need a ILR.. most confusing

I suspect you obtained ILR before 2004 and therefore before the 2004 EC directive came into force. (Assuming you have always been a Dutch citizen...)

You don't need to renew your ILR, so I suggest leaving that issue aside (why are you speaking to an embassy, anyway?) and simply applying for naturalisation.

If you follow FM's link to the BIA site, read the requirements.

You need to take the Life in the UK test (£34).
You need to pay £600 odd for naturalisation.
