Clarification on suitable SOC code

Post by Shadia89 » Mon Sep 16, 2024 6:43 pm

Hi Everyone,

I am currently working as an Electrical, Control, & Instrumentation (EC&I) Design Engineer, and I am set to receive a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) from my company. My role involves designing and producing various engineering documents within the gas industry.

While I couldn’t find my exact job title on the SOC 2020 classification website (https://cascotweb.warwick.ac.uk/#/class ... on/soc2020), I came across two possible matches:

1- 2125/02 – Control and Instrumentation Engineer (which is a subcategory of Production and Process Engineering)
2- 2129/99 – Design Engineer (which is a subcategory of Engineering Professionals).

As my current job is not related to production and process engineering, I am unsure which code would be the most appropriate for my CoS. I should also mention that my annual salary meets the requirements for both of these classifications.

Could you please advise me on the most suitable option?

Why are you getting a new certificate of sponsorship?? That is not required for ILR at all.
You just need to ask your employer/sponsor to identify the closest 2020 SOC that matches the old SOC 2010 you were previously assigned. This is not something that others can do for you

Thank you very much for your response.
I am currently on a dependent visa through my wife’s student visa, and I am planning to switch to a Skilled Worker visa for the first time. That’s why I am unsure about the best SOC code match for my job title.

Your post is now moved to the appropriate sub forum.
The advice remains the same, it is your sponsor that needs to identify the SOC code :!:
