Hi all
First of all,i would like to thank all members as this forum has been an invaluable source of information and worthy piece of advice.
Now,i will be applying for Tier1 at Delhi VFS on 12th Jan,and i have few doubts/queries.
Please help regarding the same
1. Can i fill the VAF9 and Appendix doc with computer rather than filling with pen ?
2. I couldnt find much of information regarding the timelines at Delhi VFS,someone please share that.
3. I did MCA which took almost 3 years,so what shall i choose 2 years but less than 3 i believe, someone who did the same or otherwise please confirm.
4. The maintenance period i was hoping to use is 1st oct to 31st dec,so what if i submit the letter from bank to date 1st Oct to say 10th Jan.
5. The consular rate of exchange is i believe gets updated on 8th every month,so it will be done on 8th Jan,someone please confirm
so for my maintenance fund calculations, shall i use the rate which is posted at the website of VFS.
i would be more than obliged for your inputs/answers.
thanks in advance
~Sunny

Use the rate from OANDA website. Take conversion rate as on date of the bank statement

but i'm still confused a bit.lets take the real dates for our discussion
1. my Earnings period is 1st jan 08 to 31st dec 08,and consular rate of exchange for month of dec is 80rs=1 pound
so shall i use it for Point based calculator
2. i will be applying on 12th jan and most likely consular rate of exchange for month of Jan will be published till then,so i will using that rate for my Maintenance fund(3 month period is 1st oct 08 to 10th jan 09) part.

You seem to be hung up with consular rate of exchange for some unknown reasons. it seems to me that you have not gone through the
guidance note thoroughly (my advice is you go through the notes carefully). For your benefit I am pasting below the relevant portion:
Earnings made overseas must be converted into pounds sterling so that we can assess them. The official exchange rate we use is the one produced by OANDA.
An applicant should use the closing spot exchange rate on the OANDA website at http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic on the last day of the period for which he/she has claimed earnings in that currency.

No. use the rate from OANDA website for 10th Jan 2009.
Hope this helps.

ok guys another doubt
Is it good to make separate covering letters for each section along with the application?
or 1 cover letter for all is enough ?

There is no requirement on covering letter for each section. It is individual's wish. Where you have lot of explaining to do, I would suggest a covering letter. I have used the following cover letters
1) Main Cover Letter
2) Past Earnings Cover Letter
Thanks

You can achieve the purpose of multiple cover letter by using a single cover letter and having well delineated sections within.

provide contact details of the person who can provide accurate info when contacted for verification and get him to sign the dox
2. And while giving contact details, shall i give their email IDs,phone nos or both -
yes and provide mobile numbers too
3. Also, whom contact details shall i give on Maint Letter from bank.
provide contact details of the person who can provide accurate info when contacted for verification
4. What is a transcript ? i have my MCA degree and marksheets ? shall i give my marksheets alongwith Degree. Is marksheet=transcript?
Usually yes. As a minimum it is statement of marks and the better formats carry details of contact hours and methods for calculating grades etc. This is a definition of transcript from NARIC website -
What is a Transcript?
A transcript is a written or recorded copy in printable format issued by the institution where you have completed a course of study or training. It should contain a full academic record of a student's career and include marks from all years, although marks are not always available for taught postgraduates in certain countries. In some cases, a certified statement of period of study and / training from the provider can also be accepted.
Please advise.

I assumed that my caseworker might have low patience levels as I am to go through one long story and gave individual covering letters under each section which appeared short'n'brief and explained every section from the scratch with no assumptions. Evaluation of my application is like marking an exam answer sheet and hence I do not want to give a chance.
It did pay & probably a good reason for my application to turn in quickly.....
P.s: For english language, UK exp & MF, I did not have much things to write and hence I wrote in single page under sections- D, E, F with A,B & C for age, qualifications & previous exp respectively.

Another Query, the OANDA website says this for 31st Dec 08 which is my statement date for both MF,Earnings calculations
Wednesday, December 31, 2008
1 British Pound = 71.98735 Indian Rupee
1 Indian Rupee (INR) = 0.01389 British Pound (GBP)
Median price = 71.22133 / 71.98735 (bid/ask)
Estimated price based on daily US dollar rates.
so shall i take 72 for all my calculations and is this the one i have to pick
Please advise
thanks

Ok Thanks Folks
i got the statements and letter from bank.but they dint write conversion rate taken from oanda.com rather they used their own rate
fortunately both rates were equal.
now i have all the docs only need to make the cover letter.
Thanks a lot folks once again, you all have been helpful
will trouble you once again if i get struck somewhere.
One small doubt is still troubling me,
Will it be a fine idea to fill all FORMS by myself rather than computer.
whats the preferred approach ? and pros and cons please.
thanks

72 in any case is conservative. Additionally the caseworker will verify the rate himself and use hie own rate based on OANDA if there is any difference.

Hello Everyone,
Now its my time to fill the form, planning to apply on 16th or 19th Jan 09.
VAF 9 Form:
Question:
5.1 Is your partner accompanying you or joining you later?
I called VFS and they told to put me YES, I have gone through few of the topics and most of you guys have mentioned NO in this section when dependants are travelling later not with you. My case is also similar as I am applying first and will apply later for my dependants (wife n kid).
I would appreciate last n final confirmation from guys who got their visas approved.
If the answer is NO then do we have to fill questions 5.2 to 5.7?
Thank you
