several questions

Post by previously_jms_ » Tue Nov 05, 2024 6:36 pm

I managed to somehow lock myself out of my account and cant seem to get a password reset. No idea how to fix this.

1) Does anyone know if people living in Dublin ever receive invites to the ceremonies held outside of Dublin?

2) I was approved for citizenship early in the summer but haven't received a ceremony invite yet. If I don't have my citizenship ceremony before my card/visa is set to expire does that mean I need to pay for it to be renewed again while I wait?

3) I realise the immigration offices have limited resources etc. For those of you that have been acting as mods on this board how did you get into it? I think I speak not just for myself but for others when I say you have helped keep the anxiety down during a process which at times can seem a bit vague or confusing. If someone would like to similarly help others going through this process in the future is there a direction you'd suggestion they go in?

1. Yes there will be people from Dublin invited. There is no consistent pattern (available to people outside the department - eg address, date of approval, country of origin etc etc) to who gets invited to which ceremony. (If there is only one venue: sometimes when there is a Dublin and Killarney ceremony in same month those living in the north half seem to get invited to Dublin and those in south half to Killarney, but not when there is only one ceremony location in a month). This may change as they get their act together, but right now, anyone could be invited. The thing with Killarney ceremonies is that they are smaller than Dublin, and there is only 2 days in December. And there has been a huge number of approvals made since June, and that is on top of many June approvals missing out on both July and September ceremonies (and of course that's without considering there are even approvals from 2023 that still have not received an invitation.) So I think it is fair to say more people will not get a December invitation, than will get one, due to sheer backlog rather than where they live.
2. You need to have continuous valid permission until at least the day of your ceremony. If you need to pay for renewal, then yes, you'd need to pay again.
3. Not a mod, so can't speak to modding. Butlink to Citizens Information page lists most of the groups volunteering to help migrants in Ireland. They often look for informed and engaged volunteers to support people who come to them.

Thank you both, as this was a question I had.

I am based in Dublin but i'm set to be out the country at the time. I don't mind pushing back to be in Dublin for this (i was approved on 4th Oct) but I really don't want to go that far....

What's your other account? I might be able to have a look.

Into helping with immigration queries? Every person's experience was different; I had to dig into how immigration works for personal reasons and retained this knowledge for long enough to help others, which I don't mind.

Thank you! My account was just _jms_ but for some reason I can't get in. And when I try to do a password reset I don't receive any emails even in my spam.

I had an issue a while ago. Not sure if it’s the same as yours. When I enter my password it just gave me a seemingly irrelevant error message. I later found out it’s to do with my browser cache. Once I clear my cache it works fine.

And in terms of Dubliners being invited to other cities, yes it solely depends on where the next ceremony is held. They don’t really care where the applicant is based. Lots of people have to travel for 3-6 hours to Killarney.

I live in Dublin, and I was invited to a Killarney ceremony in June (when they had Dublin ceremonies later the same month). My invitation came quite late compared to most others I saw online for the same ceremony, though, so I suspect I got invited to the Killarney one due to a cancellation or something, and they had extra slots they were filling up.

Giving me a bit of hope on an otherwise grim day. (Reeeeeally don't miss America right now...) I paid the citizenship fee on July 1st and would gladly trek across the country in a heartbeat if it meant finally becoming a citizen. Fingers crossed there will be some good news soon. Thanks everyone for your responses!
