Pet relocation

Post by fatguyslim » Fri Nov 08, 2024 8:02 pm

Hey everyone,

Not sure if this is the correct sub thread for this post but if it isn't then I request the mods to move me to the appropriate sub thread. I am looking to relocate my pet from India to UK and also plan on travelling with my dog back and forth in the future. All the documents and vaccines are in order but the pet relocation companies charge over the top fees to move my dog. I was wondering if there are people in this forum who travel with their dog from India to UK on regular basis who can let me know how I could avoid these massive charges and do this on my own? Thanks in advance

Not sure if you've already checked the Gov.UK page on pet relocation.

I'm not qualified to speak on this question, but my sister-in law works in the domestic animal grooming field and I consulted her.

She advised that while it is certainly possible to relocate a pet to the UK, regular travel in and out of the UK would be ill advised.

Essentially pet travel can be a vector for invasiveness of bacteria and virii that have been eradicated in the EU and UK, but are present in the rest of the world. So certain checks will need to be done on the same animal each time they exit and re-enter the EU-UK bubble.

As for pet relocation firms, she herself used a "transporter" when moving her cat here, in spite of working in this environment and and didn't do it herself. Of course she doesn't plan to travel with the cat repeatedly.
I am not a lawyer or immigration advisor. My statements/comments do not constitute legal advice. E&OE. Please do not PM me for advice.

Is your dog a service animal? If so, you may find this information helpful. https://www.caa.co.uk/passengers-and-pu ... stance-dog Note that a service dog must still comply with the Pet Travel scheme.

All the checks are already done as mentioned in the link above. The issue is that I am unable to find a decent company who can do all of this for a reasonable price. I was hoping if someone in here is a pet owner then they can recommend all the steps they took to get their pet relocated to the UK?
