Hi,
I have had my Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK since 2002. I have done nothing but study and work here for the past 23 years. Since my arrival, I have only ever lived in the UK. I hold a master’s degree in architecture and have been working professionally as an architect for almost nine years.
I used to hold a refugee travel document, which allowed me to travel to all European countries, so I didn’t feel the need to apply for a full British passport. Perhaps it was a mistake not to do it earlier. I submitted my naturalisation application in March 2021, but I have been waiting for almost four years now without any updates.
Every time I’ve contacted the Home Office—either directly or through lawyers—I’ve received the same automated response: either “We are checking your character through different agencies,” or “Applications take six months, but some may take longer.” My application will hit the four-year mark this March.
I’m hoping someone here can offer advice or share their experience if they’ve been through a similar situation.
Much respect.
