ILR holder after 3 years on GTV eligible for Naturalisation

Post by jignasha210 » Sun Dec 29, 2024 5:03 pm

Hi folks,
I`m an ILR holder for past 1.5 year and I received ILR after three years on GTV, at that time I was living in Ireland as I was working on a Research project between UK and Ireland.
Currently I`m living in UK and I am planning to apply for Naturalisation. I was wondering if I`m eligible to apply or not? I`m aware about five year time duration, but as its an usual circumstances if anyone can share their insights would be highly appreciated.
Thanks :D

Is there any reason why you can't wait for the five year duration?

Keep in mind that there are three different absence requirements that you must meet for naturalisation.

(a) Absence of less than 450 days in the five year period before the date of application for naturalisation.
(b) Absence of less than 90 days in the year before the date of application for naturalisation.
(c) Being physically present in the UK at the start of the five year period mentioned in (a)

Discretion can be used to disregard one requirement. If you factor in your absences in the past five years, are they under the 450 days threshold?

Were you residing in Northern Ireland or in the Republic of Ireland?

You need to wait until you hit the 5 year mark of living in the UK before you qualify - no "unusual circumstances" that I can see from your post can waive that requirement. as secret.simon pointed out, you need to specify whether you lived in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland and if it is the former for how long to determine if you will be able to meet the absence requirement (once you reach the 5 year residence mark).
All advice comes from personal research and experience and should not be regarded as professional opinion.
