2 speeding tickets and Naturalisation

Post by passed » Sat Jan 04, 2025 6:39 pm

Hi respected team,

I hope you're having a great weekend. I'm applying for my naturalization in a week, and I just received two speeding tickets after almost five years of driving with a clean record. It's such bad luck and a silly mistake, but I can't change the past now.

Will these tickets affect my application? Given my clean driving history, do you think they might overlook them? I'm feeling stressed about it. If I don’t pass this application, will it impact my chances in the future? I want to try my luck this time though.

What are your thoughts, please?

Thanks!

It is worth mentioning that I only received the post today and have not sent my details back. Therefore, I technically do not have any points on my driving licence at the time of my neurtralisation application.

Are they both definitely tickets, no offer for the course? if one of them has the offer for the course it won't be a worry at all. In any case it's not the points on the license that matter, just the fact you received FPNs. I strongly doubt they would reject an application for two speeding tickets if you've never offended before. I would still declare this in a cover letter and explain it was an oversight. If there is no course offer maybe book yourself a place for a course yourself as soon as possible and write it in your letter, so that you are showing you understood your mistake and will change your character.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I’m afraid I didn't mention earlier that I had attended a speeding course before, so I don’t think they will offer it to me again. However, I have never received points for anything else; I’ve only received these two letters. My guess is that it will eventually lead to points. My main concern is that both incidents happened within a week, primarily because it’s on my way to work. I’ve traveled this road for a year without speeding, but I only last week i made this mistake ,not sure if that would be a proper mitigating reason to include in my cover letter, what do you think?

What do you mean by "if no course was offered, book myself in one"? Can I actually enroll in a speeding awareness course even if I wasn't offered one? Because that would be really beneficial; it would at least show that I am taking steps to make a change, etc.

"Speed Awareness Course" can't be booked on demand - they are often offered for the first offence, though you can elect to go to court if you don't agree with the ticket. You pay for the course and attend, this will not count as a fine, no points given, no need to disclose.
Second offence you don't get the option, you get fined and points will be recorded - I know having been through both scenarios ...
However, unless you are a serial offender, get taken to court, don't pay fines disclosing offences will not affect your application.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
Please do not send me private messages asking for advice.

I don't know of there are other safe driving courses you can attend - apologies for poor wording. In any case I doubt this would result in a rejection, but do disclose what is happening.
