Well that was a shamble. My niece on a students visa travelled back to Ghana for the Christmas break. I made sure she had a UKVI account set up and passport linked in time for her trip. I told her to still carry her passport and expired BRP (31.12.2024) and a share code just in case. Followed this https://homeofficemedia.blog.gov.uk/202 ... -evisas-2/
Going was fine with no issues. Travelling back on the 4th, they spent over an hour back and forth with the immigration agents and airline staff as they couldn’t access anything or any portal to prove her leave to enter at the airport in Ghana. She went on her phone to access her account to show and prove to them she has stay but they wouldn’t accept it as if they are not aware about Evisa or the extension to 31.03.2024.
After numerous phone calls etc with their managers etc, they would reluctantly take a printed copy of the page. Where was she going to print this when flight was nearly being boarded.
Does anyone know how the directives are communicated to border agents and international airlines please as there seem to be a gap. Is the portal they are supposed to be using not up and running? I think there are some people here who attend meetings with the home office and would appreciate if this is raised to help others. Absolute nightmare for her. At BHX though, everything was smooth and quick with the border agents here.
Just an advice to others, print copies of the status page with you as well. I knew there would be challenges especially those travelling in the new year and thought I followed all the instructions and mitigate any potential issues but I failed her miserably.
