Passport application

Post by londonphd » Tue Jan 07, 2025 1:38 pm

Hello All,
Happy New Year!

I applied for daughter's first Brit passport. She was born abroad and came to the UK on my wife's passport. My wife surrendered her passport to the embassy in the UK and since then has renewed her passport. My daughter has a current foreign passport which I sent to HMPO along with her naturalisation certificate.

HMPO has just sent me the following email:
We have not received [daughter]’s most recent foreign passport, travel document or identity document.
We need you to send the original document or colour photocopy, so we can check if the name matches the name they have asked us to show on their British passport.
We will not issue a British passport in a different name.
Please also send the passport on which [daughter] first entered the UK.
We also need you to send an additional document to help us complete your application.
Other evidence we need from you
To help us complete [daughter]’s application, we need their registration certificate – order an official copy at: https://www.gov.uk/get-replacement-citi ... ertificate.

To get an official copy of a document that was issued by a foreign country, contact the authority that issued the original document.
I sent daughter's documents along with my wife's in a single envelop. I hope the HMPO did not misplace or lose the documents. My wife's passport application was approved which is reassuring.
Has anyone experiences this before? What did you do?

I wanted to send a letter explaining this to the officer. Should I use the same address to which I sent the documents?

Thank you!

I believe the advice is not to send documents for multiple passport applications together. Was the reference number for your daughter's application on the envelope as well?

Call the helpline and ask to speak to a senior manager, explaining that you have sent the passport and they need to check the envelope again. It does, frustratingly, happen that HMPO doesn't find documents that applicants send; it would be good to confirm they have daughter's passport and if they can't process the application to get the originals back and apply again.
All advice comes from personal research and experience and should not be regarded as professional opinion.

Many thanks for your response.
The advice from HMPO was to send documents together if applicants were related (family). I followed the instructions and stated the reference numbers on the envelope above the PO address. Maybe I should not have followed that advise.

I've talked to the PO and they confirmed that they have my daughter's passport and naturalisation certificate. The email I got was an automated one, apparently. She took notes for the examiner. Hopefully, the examiner will not delay the process any longer.
Thank you!
