How long can stay outside the UK after being granted Tier 1

Post by karimiz » Mon Jan 12, 2009 12:53 am

Hi,

I wanted to know once the Tier 1 (General / Skilled) visa has been granted, how long can i stay outside the UK (after the initial visit)

In other words, if i have been granted the visa, i plan to visit the UK but then i want to return to my home country to sell my house and resign from the job. I wanted to know how long am i permitted to stay outside the UK.

For example, the Canadian law states that after being a landed permanent immigrnat of Canada, you can be away for less than 3 years in order to maintain your permanent residency.

Also, US lay states in order to maintain your US green card, you need to visit once in every six months.

What is the UK law for Tier 1 general visa holders?

No clarity on that as such but the draft immigration act says you can be away for max 90 days per year. There has been a lot of discussion on the issue on this board. use the search tool and you will get relevant info
