Child first British passport born abroad with no local birth certificate

Post by nagrgl » Wed Feb 26, 2025 7:02 am

I am a British citizen by naturalisation, and my wife is Nepal. We got married in Nepal, and our child was born in 2025. I am in the process of applying for my child's first British passport from Nepal, but the local authorities in Nepal have informed me that they do not issue birth certificates if the father is a foreign national. We only have the hospital birth certificate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting conundrum. Try to apply with what the hospital gave you, with a translation if it's not in English, and enclose a copy of the correspondance/policy that informs you that children born in Nepal to a foreign national won't get a Nepali birth certificate.
