Can a naturalised Irish citizen apply for first passport living abroad?

Post by cronuxredux » Thu Feb 27, 2025 1:43 am

hi all,

I am a recently naturalised irish citizen - I was eligible 4 year ago but process took a while and now I have the opportunity to work abroad.

Has anynone naturalised been able to apply for the first passport from abraod using Goverment correspodance from another country?

There is nothing saying you can't but all the examples suggest proof name and adress tied to Ireland. I could still do it before going but its not ideal as easier to get them when im overseas. The documents I applied with for naturalisation are dated tho they don't list a validity period.... and this isnt a limitation for people who apply from a Irish parent but born and live overseas...

Anyone with experience be great, I will likely see if anyone at the embassy Id need can confirm also.

Yes of course it is possible, just not as ideal or straightforward. There is a whole section for that scenario.
Simply scroll down to the very bottom of the page and expand the last drop down.
