ILR to evisa

Post by Tamrind » Sat Mar 08, 2025 10:44 pm

Good evening, I currently have ILR and would like some information regarding moving to evisa. I've checked with customer service regarding moving from ILR to evisa and was told it's free now and no payment is required.
My question is will there be a time on the evisa, as my ILR is currently on my old passport and am worried moving over to a evisa now will incur a charge in future even thou it's pitched as free a few might creap in later on.
Sorry for the long post as it's my first post do bear with me.
Thanks in advance 🙏

There's no choice you need to migrate to online eVisa.
There's no charge for eVisa (never has been) and no expiry date - it's not a new visa it's just a different way of proving your ILR status (no vignette, stamps or BRP cards), i.e. your passport is linked to it which enables UK border control and proving right to work and right to rent. Your ILR status doesn't expire unless you leave the UK for more than 2 years.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

'Moving from ILR to eVisa' making no sense. An eVisa is simply the digital proof or confirmation of your visa/immigration status. The eVisa simply replaced old ILR stickers and BRPs. If you have an old ILR sticker in a passport, you need to apply for NTL application and you will be issued a digital status (eVisa) which will show that you have ILR. ILR is your status under the rules and stands for indefinite leave to remain, meaning that it is permanent and has no expiry.
If you have indefinite leave to enter or indefinite leave to remain (also known as settlement or settled status) and you currently prove your rights through a different type of physical document, such as a wet-ink stamp in your passport or a vignette sticker, then you should make a free ‘no time limit’ (NTL) application. Once your NTL application is decided, you will receive an eVisa. You will be told how to access your eVisa in your decision email or letter.
