How to apply for evisa after changing from refugee status to ILR

Post by henceconsequentlyjam » Mon Mar 10, 2025 5:04 pm

Hi all,

I have just received an email from the Home Office today to say I have been granted ILR. I had previously been granted refugee status and had a refugee travel document which has now expired. My old BRP is also expired so:

1. How do I apply for an evisa given I don't have any identity documents (passport or BRP) that are valid?

2. How do I go about renewing my refugee travel document? Will the new document show my new immigration status?

I have previously had an account on UKVI that I started with my previous, now expired BRP, but was never able to verify because the BRP was lost.

Apologies if this is a painfully obvious question but I am finding the Home Office's website really clunky and difficult to navigate in finding relevant information.

You should apply for an eVisa access here: https://www.gov.uk/get-access-evisa

Travel document will be used alongside your eVisa for travel in and out of the UK.
After you get an eVisa then you can apply for a new travel document here: https://www.gov.uk/apply-home-office-tr ... w-to-apply

Thanks for responding to the 2nd question but the response to the first question wasn't what I asked/was looking for (I already had the link you gave).

Just for anyone who may have similar issues in the future with obtaining/accessing an eVisa without a valid passport and/or BRP, I rang the home office and they gave me a link that allows me to request a reference, which will then allow me to obtain the evisa. You can also use this service to access your eVisa if you do have a valid passport but need to find your BRP number or application number:

This link seems to be new but good to know that they have a way to allow you to access eVisa when you do not have a passport
