Caution for shoplifting 15 years ago - citizenship application

Post by Place-s » Tue Mar 11, 2025 3:37 am

Hello.
I have had a caution for shoplifting in Ireland in 2010 when I was just 18 and another warning in my home country for shoplifting the same year around the same time.

I was really stupid and young at the time and haven't had any other offences or even fines except this ever since.

I am wondering with the new rules in 2023, how likely is this to affect my citizenship application considering it was 15 years ago and I was only 18.

Also it is asking for exact dates for the caution. I remember the month/year but not the exact day so not sure what to put.

I appreciate any help or advice on this.

Many thanks.

This happened so long ago, it was only a caution and you haven't reoffended since. Declare all details you remember in a cover letter and say you deeply regret it and would never offend again. Unlikely to be an issue especially if you haven't had any other FPNs/driving fines/immigration offences.
