Hi,
I am currently on spouse visa and would complete 5 years on this visa in the month of January 2025. I would like to apply for ILR in January 2025. My question is:
1: Are there any restrictions with regards to time spent abroad for ILR application when the applicant is on spouse visa.
2: Are there any restrictions with regards to time spent abroad for citizenship application when the applicant is on spouse visa.

Are you married to a British citizen? It is unclear from the question. The answers below are predicated on the basis that your spouse is a British citizen. They change if your spouse is on ILR themselves or an EEA citizen with pre-settled status.

If you are married to a British citizen, you can apply for British citizenship on or after the day you are granted ILR.

2: Are there any restrictions with regards to time spent abroad for citizenship application when the applicant is on spouse visa.

Yes.
(a) No more than 90 days in the one year immediately preceding the date of naturalisation application,
(b) no more than 27 days in the three years preceding the date of naturalisation application, and,
(c) Being physically present in the UK at the start of the three year period referenced in (b) above. In simple terms, being physically present in the UK (i.e. not abroad) three years before the date of application + 1 day.

Hi everyone,

I’m currently preparing my ILR application as a spouse in the UK. Last year, I was issued two Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) by the NHS, which I paid in full.

I have a couple of questions:
1. Will this have any impact on my ILR application?
2. Do I need to declare this in my application?

I’d appreciate any advice or experiences from anyone who has been in a similar situation. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I’m applying for ILR as a spouse and had my degree assessed by NARIC (now ECCTIS) five years ago when I first applied for my visa. It was confirmed as equivalent to B1 English proficiency at the time.

My questions are:
1. Is my previous NARIC/ECCTIS assessment still valid for my ILR application?
2. Do I need to take a new English language test, or can I use the same equivalency certificate?

I’d really appreciate any guidance or experiences from others who have been through this process. Thanks!

Hi everyone, my visa is expiring soon, and I'm planning to submit my ILR application this weekend. However, my family and I will be moving in 2-3 weeks' time. Once I submit my application, how can I update my new address with the Home Office? Any guidance on the process would be greatly appreciated!
